James married Mavis Colleen Scharenguivel under special licence on the 8th June 1959.
James and Mavis always celebrated their wedding anniversary on the 3rd June. This was the day that James was allowed out from the camp and went to stay with Mavis at Clifton. He returned to the camp the next day to be released with the other detainees who had come back from St. John’s Island.
